The Southern Boys Band History

Right in the heart of Dixie is where The Southern Boys Band first got their start….December 1990 in a small community north of Birmingham…Mount Olive, Alabama.  The original band members were Wayland and Kenny Bailey, Jeff Roberts, Jeff Haynes and David Manley.  As the years progressed and band members Jeff Haynes and David Manley left for other career pursuits, additional band members Kevin Sullivan and Jason Gooch took to the band stand.  These original members became known as The Southern Boys Band playing throughout the state and recorded the original songs-“Dixie Dreamin’ “, Bama’s Southern Pride and Bound to Birmingham,.”  Career moves and scheduling difficulties resulted in Jeff Roberts and Kevin Sullivan leaving the band.  As a result, Wayland and Kenny brought in their two younger brothers, Kevin and Justin to develop the nucleus of the band, bringing Jason Gooch in as lead guitarist.  The year 2007 was a bitter sweet chain of events that has led to the band becoming a hot commodity.  With the loss of their Uncle George McCorkle it brought them closer together with their cousin Justin McCorkle, and Bruce Wall.  Justin McCorkle soon became a regular member of the band.  Bruce Wall took over internet development, management, and even sitting in from time to time.  2008 started off with the production of their debut full length CD, Video shoots, and impressive performances.  As the years have proved out this truly has been a “band of brothers.”

The Southern Boys Band Biography
Quite literally they are a "Band of Brothers".  The band currently consists of 4 brothers, Wayland, Kenny, Justin, and Kevin Bailey.  The boys grew up being inspired by their Uncle George McCorkle of the Marshall Tucker Band.  The newest member of the band is their cousin Justin McCorkle (son of George McCorkle).  Jason "Dixie" Gooch on guitar.  Jason went to high school with the Boys.  Last, but not least, is Joe Bar-Nadav on keys.

In 2007 the boys all came together with their friends to perform a tribute to George McCorkle who passed away on June 29th of cancer.  They dazzled the audiences at both MusiFest and Jam4George.

The Band also features several honorary members who perform with the boys every chance they get:  Jo Jo Billingsley, and Bruce Wall.
